Anitvirus software alert issue
« on: April 10, 2010, 08:11:06 PM »
My laptop is impacted by Virus and messages displaying Windows security alert and Anti-virus software issue are popping up, and asking me to activate anti virus suite.  I am not able to run any other cleanup tool other than Malwarebytes.  It found 4 issues including green AV and i removed them.  But still issue is not resolved.  Please help me to resolve this.  Thanks Anand.

Go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix and follow the instructions on how to install the Recovery Console and run ComboFix. Go through all the steps until posting the log part. Post the combofix log here. If it gives you trouble running it, delete it. Download a new copy and save it as "CFadwarecheck.com" (save it with the double quotes) on your desktop. Then try running it again.

Thanks Kevin. I created another User ID and logged in to run the Mal ware bytes Anti-malware.  It identified the Green AV and deleted it.  Then i ran Spy bot which i identified AV again and cleaned it.  As of now, system works fine and the anti-virus logs are clean.  Does that mean the issue is resolved?  Thanks again for your response.

Log into that account again and run ComboFix. I want to take a quick look just to be sure.

Finally,  i got time to install COMBOFIX to fix the malware. Unfortunately, it doesn't support Windows Vista OS.  I think still malware is in my laptop since it is not allowing me to install McAfee, and when i open Google Chrome browser i get page not available message.  Any other way to remove the malware.  Thanks in advance...

UPDATE..

I resolved the Google chrome issue by deselecting the proxy server and fixed the McAfee issue by following the instructions provided in the McAfee website and it worked now.  Still i would like to clean the laptop from any malware...  Thanks..

Download OTL to your desktop.
- Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
- When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
- Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
- When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListIt.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
- Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.
