Antivirus Downloading Issue
« on: July 06, 2010, 09:16:43 PM »
Okay will someone please help me.  I'm trying to download AVG onto my personal computer but keep getting this attention message:
Installer has detected that there is an outdated version of the program Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator, which contains a bug that (among others) can cause problems with AVG 9.0.
We recommend you to update this software prior to installation of AVG 9.0. An update package is available on the Roxio web page.

So, first of all I didn't even know I had that program.  Secondly, when I try to follow the hyperlink to Roxio web page is does absolutely nothing and I can't download the program.
I've tried downloading the program with an updated version and it still pops up with the attention message.
How do I fix this problem?  I really want AVG on my computer instead of Norton.  Thank you

Hi,  The Shadow here:

Well, if you didn't know that you have Roxio (usually installed by your computer manufacturer) then you don't need it and you can just UN-Install it, in your control panel, Add/Remove Programs.
By comparison, it's pretty POOR Cd burning software anyway.

Have you removed Norton yet?  That MAY also prevent AVG from loading.

Keith should be along shortly and I'm sure he'll have some more suggestions.

Cheers Mate!

See that's the thing...when I look into my control panel under the add/remove programs it's not listed there so I don't know what to do.  Yes, I have un-installed Norton.

Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and see if you can remove Roxio from there:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml

If that doesn't work, try the below:

Not sure what version of Roxio you have there, but here are the manual uninstall instructions for Roxio 9 & 10:

http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/kb/Creator/000086CR&PARAMS=

Be careful with the registry. I recommend creating a new system restore point or backing up the registry prior to doing anything in there.

Once that's done, use a program called Roxio Zap to make sure any remnants left behind are deleted completed:

Not sure how well this program works since I haven't used it before.

Also, just to make sure that Norton is removed for good, download the Norton Removal Tool and run it:
