"stolen" email addresses
« on: July 12, 2010, 01:44:57 PM »
I have received a few "no subject" emails that were suspicious so I deleted them. The emails had only a link in them; no text. Those addresses were from lists I'm on. Now my friend Ken has had his email address used (he is not on any of my lists) & he will be looking here for help to get rid of the bug. I will send him the tutorial but is there something common going around?

It could be just random spam email. I have been getting spammed similarly from time to time and just delete them. They might have harvested your email address somewhere online. Nothing can be done for most of these spammers who just post a link in them. Can't even unsubscribe since they are not really legitimate emails.

They are from email addresses I know, but the people (who have the email addresses) did not send them. I thought they had a "bug" in their computers. I got 5 emails from 3 addresses I know in the last 2 weeks or so. The ones from same address(es) were several hours apart.
Thasnks very much!

They might have been infected with some sort of malware. I have a few users who are having similar issues where they sent me spam links without their knowledge.

That's what I suspected. Hopefully your tutorial at  http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.php  will help get rid of the problem.
